Memorial Day

"Let's not forget their families and great pain they had to bear. Losing a son, daughter, father, mother, husband, or wife. They need to know we still care..." -Michelle Keim

A family recently just found out that the mom has Alzheimer’s disease. The mom starts crying telling her family that her main worry is that she will forget that she love/loved them (the dad and the kids). But you could tell that the son will not let it go. He will do anything and will buy any medication and other treatments for the mom.

Later on the dad was outside crying and getting drunk… The son approached the dad saying: “No! Don’t tell me you’re giving up?!” The dad stared at the son for a while and replied: “No son! It’s not giving up, it’s acceptance.”

I know the story has nothing to do with Memorial Day; however, this story portrays losing a special someone. Not losing them physically but mentally. This for all the people who hasn’t let go of the sorrows brought to them by their love ones after they have said their goodbyes. I do believe that letting go is hard but sometimes it is all we can do. Acceptance is harder to deal with but happiness is somewhat easier to attain through it.
